Solution found anyway: Missing game.dat/ Old file not found: download a no-cd torrent and pull JUST the game.dat file from it, and paste that into your Zero Hour directory. I dont know why the game.dat never installed into my directory from the disk, and according to my brothers install on an xp machine (and MY install on a virtually emulated XP machine) neither had the game.dat either.

the CD version of the game comes with 1.04 and the latest is 1.08. It is the default version installed within The First Decade and The Ultimate Collection compilations.
